For our first book, let’s leap into the often heated discussions around The Golden Compass. While the image to the side has the other two books in The Dark Materials trilogy, let’s focus on the first book, and discuss that. We won’t talk about what happens in the second or third books, unless it directly affects the book we’re discussing. And hey, let’s keep it polite.
Some of these internet arguments can head towards bloodshed!
I’ll be working from this discussion guide: Random House. It appears to be fairly neutral with regards to the main controversy surrounding this book and its series.

Syllabus:
The Golden Compass is already divided into three parts. So let’s read one part per week, and then wrap it up the last week. So, until Feb 9, let’s discuss Oxford, then 10-16 Bolvangar, then 17-23 Svalbard.
On or about the fifteenth, we’ll determine what we’ll read for March.
