Good morning campers! Spring break will be here in a matter of one and a half short months. And how would you like to go to a Spring Break Music Camp?

I thought so!

The Music Studio on Harrison Hill is hosting a week of musical exploration for campers 7 to 13, from March 21 to March 25. It’s at at Saint David of Wales Episcopal Church in Southeast Portland (map).

The camp provides a full week of music-making that will delight and enlighten both beginning and experienced young musicians with activities including instrument building, improvisation, composition, and African drumming. There will be a culminating recital open to the public on March 25 at 6:30pm where campers will perform original compositions as well as choral and chamber works.

In addition to the camp’s group activities, experienced players will receive individual instruction on their instrument and beginners will learn the rudiments of piano, violin, recorder, or percussion. Fun is 100% guaranteed!

The camp will run daily from 9:00-3:15 daily from March 21-25. Campers may attend for any number of days and all are invited to participate in the recital on Friday, March 25th at 6:30pm.
The Wells Fargo Celebrity Spelling Bee held on Thursday, January 31st raised a total of $189,000 in vital funding for Schoolhouse Supplies, the award-winning Free Store for teachers in Portland. More than 500 guests gathered to watch Mayor Potter, James Jones, Stephanie Stricklen and other Portland celebrities spell their way to the top. All participants gave it a great effort, but it was 14-year-old Shelley Clark, the ’06 and ’07 Portland Tribune/Comcast Regional Spelling Bee Champion, that out-spelled Stephanie Schneiderman of Dirty Martini with the winning word “eupepsia” and took home the championship trophy.
