Cadenza Academy - Learn Songs. Play Music. Have Fun.
July 31, 2008

Cadenza Academy was established with the mindset to be a community gathering place, where all local musicians, of every skill level and age, could gather their equipment to take lessons and learn the art of music. We provide instruction in keyboard, guitar, bass, drums, flute, saxophone, clarinet, cello, mandolin, violin, viola, trumpet, trombone, and voice. Cadenza also caters to those inspiring for more than just private music lessons providing songwriting, theory, and recording sessions. Group lessons, workshops, and our extremely popular rock camps are other methods our students use to get their weekly fill of vitamin M.

Our staff features a wide array of teaching styles and backgrounds performing with local and national artists and ensembles. Weather it’s an after school activity, enhancing their current musical ability, or seeing if they’re a real life “Guitar Hero” Cadenza Academy has the friendly, comfortable, competent atmosphere you’ve been looking for in a private music lesson’s provider.

Drop us a line to sign up for lessons; we look forward to hearing from you.

Spreadshirt Designer

Spreadshirt.com reminds me of cafepress. I really like the ability that the internet has brought, that encourages people to create their own t-shirts and other stuff. But spreadshirt.com takes out at least some of the hazards. While my art isn’t fit for t-shirt heaven, spreadshirt.com uses clipart for their creations. You should play with their creation tool; it’s topnotch!

Maggots in My Sweet Potatoes is an in-depth, illuminating, and often heartbreaking look at the lives of women who end up in jail. Dramatic portrait photography coupled with interviews with inmates, deputies, as well as medical experts, raise questions about the powerful role of childhood experiences in shaping the people we become, and reveals an overcrowded, strained incarceration system increasingly unable to deal with the mental, emotional, and addiction problems women bring with them behind bars. Maggots is the first in a trilogy of books released by Humane Exposures, a socially driven project geared toward public awareness and education about a society at risk.

Another warm week? Cool down with ice pops!
July 7, 2008

Here’s a great recipe for strawberry lemonade ice pops.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups cold water
  • 1 (12 ounce) can frozen lemonade concentrate
  • 1 (16 ounce) package frozen sliced strawberries

Cooking Instructions
In a large pitcher, stir together the water and lemonade concentrate. Place strawberries into the container of a blender, and puree until smooth. Pour in some of the lemonade if necessary to facilitate blending. Stir strawberry puree into the lemonade. Pour into molds, and freeze until firm, about 4 hours.

You’ll need some Popsicle molds too; you can get them from Fred Meyers or Tupperware ( just two suggestions ).

Smart Books for Smart Kids
July 6, 2008

In our most recent installment of “smart books for smart kids” I want to bring “Little Brother” to your attention. This rousing tale of techno-geek rebellion is aimed at teenagers, but even the great Wil Wheaton picked it up and couldn’t put it down.

Cory Doctorow is one of our great science-fiction writers. He takes what’s currently going on and extrapolates it to the future. It brings together privacy, technology and individual rights in a way that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Don’t just take my word for it: check it out for yourself.
