If you have a library card, you can download audiobooks from the library, to your iPod or to a CD for listening in the car.

Apparently, it’s a very popular service; within two days of it going live, all 300+ books were checked out. But you can put your name on a list and be notified when it’s your turn. They have a lot of good content, from mystery to science fiction, to fiction, and even some of it is “always available.”

Presidents’ Day

I wanted to pass on information that this weekend is the Raptor Road Trip on Sauvie’s Island that is hosted by the Portland Audobon Society.

It is on Saturday 2/4 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A friend took her son last year and she reports:

It was very cool. You pick up a map when you drive onto the island and there are volunteers w/ birds of prey for observation. Last year we saw them release a rehabilitated red tail hawk. Then you drive around the island to various vantage points to observe different raptors on the island. There are volunteers at the stations to help you see the birds. The trees are bare and the birds are beginning to nest so it is easy (even for a non-bird expert) to spot the birds and nests.
